인생 모토 단어들: initiative, resilient, explore

인생 모토로 삼고 싶은, 너무나 유용한 단어들을 설명해주는 구슬쌤 영상! initiative는 평소에 가끔 들을 때마다 이해를 못하고 넘어갔었는데, 정말 딱 집어서 알기 쉽게 설명해줘서 너무 좋았다:) 삶의 initiative를 가지고 resilient하게 살면서 세상을 explore해야지!

 

1. explore: 탐구/분석하다, 자세히 조사하다, 잘 알아보다

     -> 탐험가가 돋보기를 가지고, 다른 게 있지 않을까? 더 좋은 게 있지 않을까? 알아보는 느낌

     -> to think or talk about something in order to find out more about it

  ex 1) You should explore all of your options before rushing into a decision.

           We gotta explore all of our options.

  ex 2) So, did you get to explore the city? (explore + 도시 및 장소) *hidden gem : 숨겨진 명소

           I cannot wait to start exploring the city.

  ex 3) explore an idea : 아이디어를 더 자세히 알아보고 조사, 검토할 때

           We explore ideas.

 

2. initiative

   1) (목표 달성 및 문제 해결을 위한 새로운) 계획/행동/프로그램

      -> a new plan or process to achieve something or solve a problem

       ex) 칭찬할 때 : Great initiative! / Impressive initiative!

   

   2) 주도권, 결단력, 솔선

       -> show initiative : 의욕적으로 나서는 모습을 보여주다, 결단력 있게 행동하는 모습을 보여주다.

          (You act, instead of reacting at work)

           ex) Way to go, showing initiative!

                  : 의욕적으로 나서서 행동하는 모습 정말 멋져! (상대가 나서서 뭔가 해보려는 모습을 보일 때)

       -> take initiative : 솔선해서 하다, 의욕적으로 행동하다, 주도권을 잡다. (doing the right thing without being told)

           ex) I can do more, sir. I'd like to take on additional responsibilities. (take on: ~을 떠맡다, 맡아서 하다)

                 Good. I like seeing you take initiative.

       -> Your initiative? (네가 주도한거야? 네 뜻이야?) My initiative. (내 뜻이야.)

 

3. resilient: (충격, 부상 등에) 회복력 있는, 어려움에 굴하지 않고 잘 극복하는 (바닥을 찍고도 다시 위로 튕겨나가는 느낌)

   -> She's a resilient girl. Zach's resilient.

   -> She blazed her own path with hard work, a resilient spirit and a can-do attitude. 

       *Loving the can-do spirit! : 야, 할 수 있다는 태도, 정신 정말 좋은데?

   -> Americans are gritty and resilient and work hard. We've been able to clear away the rubble of financial crisis.

       *rubble:잔해
